PRIVATE SCHOOL PLAYERS

Can my child play club cricket as well as private school sport?

FAQ: My child is currently attending or will move to a private school next year. Which competition is suitable?

U9/10:
This is a challenging age group because NSJCA Stage 1 competitions are played only at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM on Saturdays. In previous years, players at this level have had fewer opportunities to consistently play club games.

Because of this, it’s difficult to accommodate all “play with friend” requests at U9/U10. If we group all school friends together, team managers often struggle to find fill-in players each week. While we welcome U9/U10 private school boys, we usually need to spread them across different teams for balance.

For players who have cricketing experience there is an U10 T20 (Stage 2) competition (Sunday AM) that will not clash with school sport.

U11:

We encourage these players to join the U11 T20 (Stage 2) competition (Saturday PM) or the U11/12 30 Over (Stage 2) competition (Sunday AM). This scheduling allows them to meet their school sport commitments on Saturday mornings and still play club cricket.

U12:

Similar to U11, U12 private school players are encouraged to join the U12 T20(Stage 2) competition (Saturday PM) or the U11/12 30 Over (Stage 2) competition (Sunday AM) for the same reasons.

U13:

All U13 competitions are held on Sunday mornings, with 20 or 30-over formats available.

Many private schools’ CAS or GPS cricket match start times vary throughout Saturday and are often only confirmed mid-week, making it difficult for players to commit to Saturday afternoon club cricket regularly. For this reason, we generally recommend these players register in Sunday morning teams.

Alternatively, some players choose a different Saturday morning school sport - such as tennis or basketball - that have shorter games and often play in the morning (for younger teams). This can free them up to play club cricket on Saturday afternoons (1:00 PM or 3:30 PM starts).
